2020

While the global COVID-19 pandemic called for changes to our programming to keep everyone safe and healthy, City Studio used the time as an opportunity to team up with Project Artivism and Collective Action Studio to create public murals around the themes of art and activism. Students also created work as part of te Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festivities. We also started a new relationship with the Capp Street Foundation where students engaged in projects at the David Ireland House. Additionally, The San Francisco Art Institute exhibited a 150th Anniversary exhbition where students visited and focused on works that engaged these ideas including the Diego Rivera mural and Rigo 23’s rooftop sculpture.

Haight Street Project

Students collaborated via zoom to design murals for local businesses on Haight Street. They then divided into pods and hit the streets. Many murals were painted on the parklets set up during the pandemic.

Walgreens Mural Project

Students met via zoom to design a collaborative mural which reflected both the neighborhood and local concerns. They then worked together to paint this massive mural.
